Vehicles in our Jacksonville, FL Lexus showroom like the 2019 Lexus ES and the 2020 Lexus NX 300 have something in common despite representing two different body styles. What do the luxury sedan and the premium SUV have in common other than being produced by the Lexus brand? They started off as ideas.
Since 2013, the automaker we represent has hosted an annual design competition that’s meant to showcase the talent of young designers and inspire them to further develop their design skills. Last year, the Lexus brand received 1,548 design proposals from entrants located in 65 different countries.
If you have a young designer in your family, your child can submit an entry to win the 2020 Lexus Design Award through October 14, 2019. Entries will need to feature three principles that are essential to the Lexus brand’s core—anticipate, innovate, and captivate. Submissions will also need to show how their designs will address the needs of both individuals and society as a whole.
The Lexus brand will announce six finalists near the start of 2020. Those lucky contestants will participate in an exclusive mentorship program in New York City where they’ll receive guidance from top designers in various areas. Each finalist will have access to $25,000 to create a prototype of their submitted design. The prototypes contestants make will be displayed at the Lexus exhibit during Milan Design Week 2020.
The winner of the Lexus Design Award will be announced during press day at Milan Design Week. While young designers can submit their entries to win the grand prize now, the contest’s judges and design mentors won’t be announced until the fall of this year.
